Because of the Covid19 pandemic and our commitment to our core value of health-consciousness, we delayed the Newark Community Healthy Pet Clinic this March. We want everyone including patients, clients, and staff volunteers to stay healthy at this time and always.
One of our other core values is education. We would like to educate you on the reason for why cancelling the clinic might aid in keeping people healthier at this time. Covid-19 is a viral disease caused by a novel corona virus called SARS-CoV-2. Viral disease can be prevented with vaccinations if a vaccination is available. There is no current vaccination available against this virus. And so, our other tool to prevent the spread of this respiratory disease spread by person to person transmission is containing the spread with social distancing. “Hunker down, don’t spread it around.” If we reduce and slow the spread of this disease, we will, hopefully, spread out the number of very severe cases so that our human health care system including our health care professionals can handle each case more effectively. This is called, in population health medicine, flattening the curve.
We hope to keep you healthy and educated about this situation so that we improve your lives so that you can enjoy your healthy pets. We understand what joy they bring us and look forward to serving you with integrity and compassion again.
Sincerely,
Dr. Nancy Shaw and the Board of Trustees of the Newark Community Healthy Pet Clinic
